Find someone special, treat them special

Love Magnet Rule #53

When you find someone special, treat them like someone special.

Life is full of contrasts. That’s the way it’s supposed to be. Contrasts are what make life interesting. And in relationships, when you think you find someone special, the contrasts are what help us decide when we really do find someone special.

In other words, you might have to meet a lot of frogs to find your prince.

When you are dating, you will probably go out on some really bad dates with singles who simply aren’t right for you. (Knowing that there are going to be bad dates in your single life makes these bad dates more tolerable.) You’ll go on some decent dates, and some good dates too. It’s important to know what a crappy date, a decent date, and a good date feels like. If you do, then you’ll know right away when you find someone special. You will know it when you meet a new love who gets your heart pumping and your blood flowing.

Because at some point, you will have a magical date with The One, the man or woman who is your perfect match. If you know how a bad date feels you will be able to appreciate the magic when it happens.

The human heart has a tremendous capacity for love. We all want to fall in love. We want to feel that rush of true love so badly that we will endure First Dates from Hell. We want to fall in love so badly that men will send out hundreds of messages on online dating sites hoping a really cute potential love will respond, and women will click through hundreds of winks and emails from men who clearly are not right for them. We will enter relationships that seem hopeful at the time, and then we endure breakups with lovers who didn’t turn out to be The One after all. We will then start the whole dating process again, hoping that true love is waiting just a few more dates away.

All the pain and hassles of dating are the contrast that makes finding love so exhilarating. So when you find someone special who makes your heart dance and your soul sing with joy, treat them like they are special.

Love, respect, defend, and appreciate him. And then love him some more. He is the reason you went out on all of those crummy dates.
